Conversations in Character

At Vacation Bible School this week at my church, I'm acting in the skit within the first 20 minutes of the night. After that, I wander around getting footage of the kids (with help from Jonathan) for a video I'll make for the next day.

Kids are starting to recognize me from the stage. As much as possible, I'm trying to talk to them as if I'm still my character instead of someone taking their picture. I become Pearl Shellfish (real name: Sugar Cooky) again, the girl who yesterday stole the treasure map from the Captain and first mate and is now trying to solve the clues to find the long lost treasure!

When I went to visit the kindergarteners at snack time, Pearl and the kids had a few cute conversations about the skit:

Kindergartener 1: Hey I recognize you from the thing in the gym!
K 2: You're a thief!
Pearl: I'm not a thief! I haven't stolen anything!.... yet.
K 2: Uh huh, you stole the map!
Pearl: Krumbs LOST it and I found it and... didn't give it back yet!
K 2: That's stealing! We're not supposed to steal.

K 3: I saw you on stage!
Pearl: You did? Well, I saw you in the audience! Did you enjoy it?
K 3: *nods*
Pearl: Great, I'm glad! Am I going to see you again tomorrow?
K 3: Yep, I wanna come again!
Pearl: Oh that's good! Because tomorrow I'm gonna work super hard and try to find the treasure, and I want you to be there!

K 4: *whispers* Hi Sugar Cooky!
Pearl: Shhh, that's not my name! That's our secret! Right?
K 4: Sugar Cooky.... Pearl!

I've never been good at improvisation, but I'm quite enjoying little conversations like these :)

Shrek Quotes from Rehearsals

Originally, I had planned to end this blog in June, when I graduated. However, a) I forgot to write a "goodbye" blog post and b) I haven't even started college yet, so who says my senior year is over? I started the blog in August '13 anyway... and there are still some things I want to tell you about!

One thing, and I'll focus on that now, is the show I'm in! Shrek the Musical with Journey Summer Theater!

Today we had costume parade, where we tried on most of our costumes, adjusted them, and got them approved by the director. While waiting around for my turn, I happened to hear a few things that, out of context (or even in context...), are quite strange!

Hopefully after enjoying these hilarious lines, you'll be excited to come see these crazy people on stage! They really put on a good show!

Lord Farquaad (older man): Daddy?!
His father (young boy): I need a beard son, hold on.

Costume parade... fake facial hair... what can I say? ;)

Guard 1: What do you have for swords today?
Guard 2: I have a light sabor!!
Captain: I have a... mic stand!

That moment when you really need a stand in prop...

Joel: Do I have a head today?

No, did you have one yesterday? In this show, Joel plays a character, Walter the Greeter, who has a huge fake head. I'll leave the rest of that scene a surprise ;)

Pig: Hug me! I'm squishy!

Pillows as fat suits make for a comfortable time in the greenroom!

And now for my personal favorite of the day.....

"Lord Farquaad has decreed that men shall not wear pants!"

I think I DIED when I heard this one!!! Oh gosh... still laughing...

Enjoy that? I thought you might ;) get your tickets for Shrek the Musical (August 8-17) at www.journeytheater.org to see these crazy awesome people doing what they do best!\
