Conversations in Character

At Vacation Bible School this week at my church, I'm acting in the skit within the first 20 minutes of the night. After that, I wander around getting footage of the kids (with help from Jonathan) for a video I'll make for the next day.

Kids are starting to recognize me from the stage. As much as possible, I'm trying to talk to them as if I'm still my character instead of someone taking their picture. I become Pearl Shellfish (real name: Sugar Cooky) again, the girl who yesterday stole the treasure map from the Captain and first mate and is now trying to solve the clues to find the long lost treasure!

When I went to visit the kindergarteners at snack time, Pearl and the kids had a few cute conversations about the skit:

Kindergartener 1: Hey I recognize you from the thing in the gym!
K 2: You're a thief!
Pearl: I'm not a thief! I haven't stolen anything!.... yet.
K 2: Uh huh, you stole the map!
Pearl: Krumbs LOST it and I found it and... didn't give it back yet!
K 2: That's stealing! We're not supposed to steal.

K 3: I saw you on stage!
Pearl: You did? Well, I saw you in the audience! Did you enjoy it?
K 3: *nods*
Pearl: Great, I'm glad! Am I going to see you again tomorrow?
K 3: Yep, I wanna come again!
Pearl: Oh that's good! Because tomorrow I'm gonna work super hard and try to find the treasure, and I want you to be there!

K 4: *whispers* Hi Sugar Cooky!
Pearl: Shhh, that's not my name! That's our secret! Right?
K 4: Sugar Cooky.... Pearl!

I've never been good at improvisation, but I'm quite enjoying little conversations like these :)
